Report Update Taveuni Estates 17th March 2016

Dear Residents and Property Owners,

As you can imagine we have been totally pre occupied with the restoration and repairs to the Estate. I believe we are now making good progress and as with all things in life there are always Rays of Sunlight.

1. One of our Hero Land Owners Mr Wayne Carney organised a group of self funded volunteers along with community donations to fly to Taveuni to assist in the re construction efforts in the worst hit areas. At the same time they were able to assist with medical needs including transportation of people to the Island Hospital where necessary. The first group of volunteers are now returning with the second group due to leave for Taveuni today. They have done so much for the people I can not express our sincere thanks in just a few words. Not only re building but also patching up medical centres fixing water pumps on the Island and so so many other things to assist us getting back on our feet as a community on the Island of Taveuni from North to South. Below this brief update are two reports of their work which I urge you to read. Many thanks Wayne Carney and fellow volunteers.

2. Government has now begun supplying food rations and supplies to the Village at Taveuni Estates which has been so greatly appreciated along with the donations of rations also delivered to the Village by our own Residents. This is the worst cyclone ever as it destroyed all our village crops and sources of food so this time Rations assistance has been essential to our staff while they slowly re plant their farms and re stock on everything which like many parts of Fiji will take considerable time. The Island has also received tremendous support from our neighbours Australia, New Zealand and France who have had over 1000 troops on the ground assisting with re construction and food supplies.

3. On the Estate itself we finally have sourced most of the water pipes needed ranging in many sizes and difficult to find in Fiji at the moment. Most pipe replacement and repair is underway still and the next big task is re connecting the second water spring to the distribution tanks as only one of the two springs is currently connected with the feed system to the second spring having been seriously damaged. The Bore Pump catchment area has been repaired and is operating well. Likewise Taveuni Dive Resort has begun restoring the essential Marina wall to allow for safe anchorage of boats. A big tank you to Carl Fox and his team.

4. Finally, the clearing of trees throughout the Estates by main roads has begun as we split the teams up but again this is going to be a long process. Our Lawyers have been asked to contact Mr Philip Morais and KKD the current beneficial owners to see what they plan to do in relation to the damaged clubhouse and surrounds. This Golf Course issue amongst other things is set down for Trial in September this year but following Cyclone Winston it is now an urgent priority that needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

Thank you all for your patience as we get everything back to normal.

Kind Regards,

Peter Stinson

Total frustration is starting to set in I am sure for those on the Estates as well as ourselves.
